Dry Fish Chutney (ഉണക്കമീൻ ചമ്മന്തി / Unakkameen Chammanthi)

Ingredients

  1. Salted dried fish - approximately 1 cup measure
  2. Fresh grated coconut - 1 cup
  3. Green chilies - 6
  4. Shallots - 4
  5. Curry leaves - few
  6. Tamarind – 1 Small piece
  7. Oil - 5 Tablespoon

Method

  1. If the fish is too salty you need to soak it in water for 30 minutes to remove some of the salt and drain the fish.
  2. Heat oil in a pan and fry the fish until it is crisp.
  3. Remove fish from oil and drain on paper towel.
  4. Add all the ingredients into a food processor or blender and blend until combines and coarsely ground.

The salted fish usually has enough salt so you will not have to add more salt.
